The certificate of family status is provided to unmarried, divorced or widowed persons. It is issued with a validity period of 6 months.

To obtain the certificate, it is possible to apply online or in person.

The basis for the state registration of marriage is the woman of marriageable age and man's joint, voluntary application (in accordance with the RA Family Code):

An application may be submitted if the marriage was registered in the Republic of Armenia Civil Status Acts Registration (CSR) bodies / RA consular institutions, or if it was registered by a foreign state and the RA is competent to dissolve it on the basis of an international treaty.

A change of name within the territory of the Republic of Armenia is registered by the Agency, while within the territory of a foreign state it may be registered by a body of the diplomatic service by making a civil status act record on the change of name.

A person's death is subject to registration without any time limit. The death registration application is submitted to a service center or a diplomatic service body.

The registration of civil status acts is declared invalid on the following grounds:

• when two civil status act registrations of the same type drawn up in respect of the same person are discovered.
• the registration was made on the basis of forged documents or false information.
• the registration was made on the basis of an application by an unauthorized person (within the framework of a power of attorney or an electronic application).
• there is a court judgment that has entered into legal force.

In order to restore the registration of civil status acts, citizens of the Republic of Armenia, as well as foreign nationals and stateless persons, may apply to the Civil Status Acts Registration Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia by booking a visit in advance.
